Education, Experience and Skills
- 4 years’ experience in a general machine shop
- Ability to run CNC lathes, mills, drill press
- Must have an understanding of mechanics, basic metallurgy, tolerance, tools, mathematics, layout and machine procedures
- Must be able to interpret blue prints
- Must have knowledge of tooling geometry and replacement or sharpening practice
- Must have the ability to follow written or verbal instructions
- Must have knowledge of health and safety requirements including but not limited to fire hazards, compressed gases, electrical, chemical and mechanical devices
- Computer skills: ability to use the computer for time tracking purposes and manipulating programs
- Multi-axis CNC capabilities are a plus.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Descripton:
Main Accountabilities (include but are not limited to)
- Examine work order and drawing of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
- Retrieve program from the network and send it the machine control.
- Select and install tooling in tool posts, turrets, indexing heads, or automatic tool change magazines in the sequence specified on program printout.
- Mount the workpiece in the chuck, on fixtures, between centers or to a faceplate.
- Proof read the program to verify dimensions, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
- Start machining operation.
- Monitor machine performance. Make necessary adjustments to feeds and speeds.
- Check dimensions after first rough cuts. Make necessary adjustments.
- Check dimensions after check cut and adjust offsets as needed to achieve finish sizes.
- Check both ends after finish cuts. Adjust taper as needed after first finish pass.
- Verify part matches print specifications after machining is complete. (Off check)
- Check the schedule, look at next work order and organize materials for next run, if possible, during automatic cycles to shorten changeover time.
- May be required to set up and operate another machine during automatic controlled machining cycles.
- Machines various types of material including nonmetallic materials.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to FLSmidth safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- May perform flame cutting or arc welding operations when required
- As part of job enrichment, and at the company’s discretion, cross training in other areas will be given
