Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a four-year college plus two (2) years or more of related experience and/or training; OR Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration plus five (5) years or more of related experience and/or training.

  • Manufacturing cost accountant experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Accounting—must have general knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, as well as thorough knowledge of applicable accounts receivable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and company procedures.

SOFTWARE

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook required.

  • SAP a plus.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

  • May work longer hours to meet deadlines as necessary.

JOB SUMMARY / OVERVIEW

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing various product and operational costs. Preparing cost of goods sold and production reports. Interfaces with operatives and leaders across multiple departments, including but not limited to Operations, collaborate with other accountants and financial staff in the company to provide financial and accounting support to department heads who establish goals and budgets for the organization, and other related duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collecting and analyzing data about the company’s operational costs

  • Setting standard costs of manufactured goods

  • Assists in the budget process including assessing business expenses and preparing optimized budget plans,

  • Developing and analyzing cost standards

  • Setting up the standard cost for labor overhead and bill of material

  • Validate and analyze the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close

  • Carrying out cost benefit analysis

  • Establishing costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.

  • Performing account reconciliations

  • Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management

  • Recommending changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit

  • Analyze inventory evaluation, inventory roll forward

  • Advising management on appropriate costing based on financial data

  • Supporting other company accountants with invoicing

  • Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation of the company.

  • Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.

  • Assists accounting department personnel as necessary.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
