Position Description: The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI), West Virginia’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, is accepting resumes for a Composites Technician at the RCBI Bridgeport Facility.

Responsibilities: The position will report directly to the RCBI Bridgeport Site Manager. The Composites Technician will engage in research and development of advanced structural composite materials, perform classroom and one-on-one training for small and large groups and perform equipment maintenance following ISO 9000 quality documented procedures. Responsibilities include assisting clients and RCBI staff with job setup on machines; assisting with troubleshooting and repair equipment problems; maintaining documented shop inventories; general cleaning; assisting RCBI staff in layout of client manufacturing processes, helping accomplish RCBI goals and performing other assigned duties. Following ISO 9000 procedures and their assigned schedule is essential. Travel is required.

Qualifications: Individual must have a high school education and/or an equivalent AS degree or post-secondary training at a certified technical institute. Must have a minimum of 5 years of composites-manufacturing experience. Experience in and/or knowledge of tooling, mandrels and fixtures for lay-up. Ability to fabricate materials into composite parts and assemblies using pre-preg and wet lay-up techniques and various required materials. Perform bonding operations using weight and mix procedures for resins and adhesives. Program computer-controlled ovens, hot presses and autoclaves to properly cure composites. Test and maintain vacuum valves and hoses for autoclave processes. Knowledge of filament winding a plus. In addition, provide training to others as required. Excellent organizational skills and strong oral, written and interpersonal communications skills are required. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently to fulfill duties and responsibilities, and must demonstrate a high degree of initiative as well as the ability to work as part of the statewide RCBI team.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

Technical Trainer posted:

Position Description: The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI), West Virginia’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, is accepting resumes for Part-time and Full-time Technical Trainer(s).

Responsibilities: The trainer will deliver industry-based training projects including but not limited to Manufacturing Processes, Blueprint Reading, Precision Measurement, Metallurgy, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, and CAD/CAM. The position requires identifying and conducting customized technical training based on manufacturers’ needs. Travel is required.

Qualifications: An Associate/Bachelor’s degree is preferred or equivalent years of industrial experience that includes a strong technical background in manufacturing. Hands-on instruction or training experience highly preferred. Excellent computer, written and oral communications skills are preferred; with particular emphasis on CAD including AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works or Solid Edge and CAM including MasterCam, SurfCam, FeatureCam and Virtual Gibbs. The ability to work independently to fulfill duties and responsibilities is necessary and the successful candidate must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and the ability to work as part of the statewide RCBI team.
