HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Jamie Cope of Scott Depot, who earned a mechanical engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis, has been named Deputy Director as well as Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI).

Cope has served as interim Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at RCBI since January.

“We are very excited that Jamie has accepted this new challenge at RCBI,” said Charlotte Weber, RCBI Director & CEO. “He brings a wealth of entrepreneurial experience and knowledge as well as a strong background in engineering. He has done an outstanding job interacting with our manufacturers and business startups, and I’m confident he will continue meeting their technology needs as he directs day-to-day functions at RCBI.”

As part of his role at RCBI, Cope also leads RCBI’s Maker Vault, a new collaborative space for the region’s entrepreneurs that focuses on making, creating, learning and exploring.

“I’m thrilled to have an expanded role on the RCBI team,” Cope said. “It is a pleasure to be a part of this talented staff and assist in their accomplishments.”

Cope’s experience includes economic development efforts at the West Virginia Department of Commerce, where he promoted the state as a world-class business location. He previously worked in marketing and media services at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

An entrepreneur himself, Cope was founder and president of Destiny Images, a computer-animation and media production company that received numerous awards for quality and creativity.
