RCBI Celebrates Machinist Graduates

BRIDGEPORT — The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing recognized 13 individuals who have completed the Machinist Technology/CNC Program at RCBI Bridgeport.

RCBI’s Machinist Technology/CNC Program offers rigorous, hands-on instruction that prepares individuals for immediate employment and lifelong professional advancement. To complete the program, students earn individual certifications from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) and work toward an associate’s degree from Mountwest Community & Technical College. The NIMS certification ensures that RCBI graduates meet nationally recognized standards of excellence and affords them portability in today’s job market.

Students who completed the two-year CNC (computer-numerical-control) program at RCBI Bridgeport are: Travis Hoy, Mannington; Lawrence “Tony” Maxson, Clarksburg; Greg Mayfield, Gypsy; David Mendez, Mount Clare; Quentin Strawderman, Petersburg; and Aaron Walls, Mannington.

“Skilled machinists will set themselves apart in the work place,” said Charlotte Weber, RCBI’s Director & CEO. “RCBI is proud to prepare a quality workforce of individuals who’ve earned industry-recognized certifications and who will enhance our region’s manufacturers so industry can thrive and grow, improving our economy.”

Hoy and Walls also were recognized as recipients of the 2015 Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program. Both received $2,000 scholarships and $1,500 in tools presented during the May 12 graduation ceremony at RCBI’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Bridgeport.

Students who have completed the first year of the Machinist Technology Program are: Colyn Hammond, Falling Waters; Robert Leary, Hedgesville; Charlie McCorkhill, Weston; Mike Roy, Bridgeport; Colby Sidenstricker, New Martinsville; Isaiah Summerfield, Philippi; and Rachel Valdivia, Mannington. These individuals are on track to complete the full program in May 2017.
