RCBI Offers Introduction to 3D Printing
August 6, 2014
HUNTINGTON — A class about Additive Manufacturing (AM) — also known as 3D Printing — will explore how the revolutionary technology can provide new business opportunities. The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI) will deliver the “Introduction to Additive Manufacturing” class on Aug. 14 at the RCBI Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, 1050 Fourth Ave., Huntington.
3D Printing involves layering materials to create a three-dimensional product. The technology is revolutionizing the design, development and manufacture of innovative products for the aerospace, defense, medical, consumer, energy and other markets.
The class will explore the basics of Additive Manufacturing, the benefits of this technology, and the differences between 3D Printing and more-traditional “subtractive” machining. Participants will tour the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, located in downtown Huntington.
Anyone interested in learning more about Additive Manufacturing technology — from manufacturers and entrepreneurs to teachers who want to introduce the technology in the classroom — will benefit from the one-day course.
