RCBI Honors Rocket Center Machinist Technology Program Grads
Commencement ceremonies for the 2008 class of the RCBI Machinist Technology Program at the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI) were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 5 at noon at the RCBI Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Rocket Center.
Instructor Lloyd Arnold presented certificates to Andrew J. Gilmore of Clearville, Pa.; Lynnda L. Harris of Burlington, W.Va.; Paul A. Hartman of Ridgeley, W.Va., and Aaron Menges of Grantsville, Md. A reception for the class members, their families and friends followed the ceremony.
The graduates have completed all phases of the industry-focused classes and are prepared to enter the labor pool as nationally-certified machinists with credentials from RCBI and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). Ceremonies for 2008 graduates at other RCBI Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers are planned Aug. 12 at Huntington and Aug. 14 at Bridgeport.
Since it began in 1998 at the RCBI Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in Huntington, the program has spread statewide and 116 individuals have completed the hands-on training. More than 90 percent of its graduates have begun careers in industry, typically earning wages between $10 and $16 an hour with benefits including retirement, paid vacation and health insurance.
New classes begin Aug. 25 at RCBI Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers in Rocket Center, Bridgeport and Huntington.
