Robotics teams to compete for state tournament berth

Nov. 3, 2018

Robotics teams from across north central West Virginia will compete Saturday, November 3, at the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) in Bridgeport for a chance to advance to the West Virginia FIRST Lego League (FLL) State Championship.

Students ages 9-14 will demonstrate their skills in this year’s space-themed “Into Orbit” challenge in the areas of Project, Core Values, Robot Design and Robot Table Game. Winners will advance to the State FLL Tournament Dec. 1 at Fairmont State University.

The public is invited to watch the Table Games beginning at 1 p.m. Teams will go head-to-head as they program their Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots to perform a series of tasks and maneuvers worth different point values.

RCBI hosts FLL tournaments at its Huntington and Bridgeport Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centers with support from the West Virginia Robotics Alliance, NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center, NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium and community volunteers.
