Oct. 1, 2018

The battle of the bots returns to Huntington October 13 as the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) hosts a FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Scrimmage for 9- to 14-year-old students.

Organized teams will participate in the informal competition in the areas of Robot Design, Core Values, Research Project and Table Game, all of which center on this year’s FLL Mission “Into Orbit,” a space-related challenge. The scrimmage, designed to familiarize teams will various aspects of official FLL competition, will run from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to all teams based in West Virginia.

The opportunity to advance to the State FLL Tournament is on the line November 17 as teams converge on RCBI Huntington to compete in the Regional Qualifier. Top teams from the Huntington event will earn a chance to vie for best-in-state honors December 1 at the West Virginia FLL Championship at Fairmont State University.

The Qualifier will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost per team to participate in the Scrimmage is $25; the entry fee for the Qualifier is $50 per team. Register teams at www.wvmakes.com/lego.
