Lowe joins RCBI as technical trainer in Williamson

Justin Lowe with Haas CNC latheJustin Lowe of Canada, Ky., has joined the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) as technical trainer for its new Machinist Technology/CNC Program based at Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College in Williamson.

A graduate of Belfry (Ky.) High School, Lowe earned his certificate in Manual & CNC Machining in 2002 from KCTCS Mayo Technical College in Paintsville, Ky. He previously performed aerospace and defense work for Precision Machine in Culpeper, Va., and worked as a CNC machinist for Tramco Services of Williamson, W.Va.

Lowe will teach hands-on and classroom courses in Machinist Technology/CNC and assist businesses and entrepreneurs in using RCBI’s new manual and computer-controlled mills and lathes located at the college’s Applied Technology Center. Students will earn industry certifications with the option of pursuing an associate degree in applied science through Southern. Classes are set to begin in August.

RCBI has expanded its Machinist Technology/CNC training program to locations in Williamson and the Welch through its Appalachian Hatchery initiative. The Hatchery is part of POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization), a multi-agency initiative that delivers federal resources to help communities affected by job losses in coal mining and related industries. Funding is provided by the Appalachian Regional Commission, U.S. Economic Development Administration and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation.
