Cathy Burns Returns to Huntington in Workforce Development at RCBI

Cathy BurnsHUNTINGTON -- Cathy Burns has joined the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing in workforce development, assigned to the RCBI Huntington Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.

RCBI Director & CEO Charlotte Weber said Burns “will work to enhance RCBI’s nationally recognized skills training programs and help develop and implement new recruiting strategies. We are very fortunate to have filled this important staff post with someone of Cathy’s caliber and experience.”

Burns most recently was Director of the Business Training Resource Center at Ohio University Southern. From 1999 to 2010, she was Executive Director of the Huntington, WV-Ironton, OH Empowerment Zone, Inc.

In 2007, The Herald-Dispatch honored her as its Business Innovator of Year, and in 2008 the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce named her a Star Volunteer.

A native of Hurricane, W. Va., she earned a bachelor’s degree at Marshall University and a master’s degree at Eastern Kentucky University.

She and her husband, Dale Burns, owner of Prime Copy Plus in Huntington, have two daughters, Katie, a senior at the University of Kentucky, and Kelsie, a junior at Huntington High School.

Burns is a Trustee and Development Chair for the American Foundation for the Blind, Program Director for the Huntington High Academic Booster Club, President of Huntington High Soccer Booster Club, a board member at the Huntington Museum of Art and a member of the Women 2 Women Committee of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce.
