Byrd Institute (RCBI) in downtown Huntington (1050 Fourth Ave.) as we present Demo Day for TEN50 - West Virginia’s Business Accelerator. Startups in RCBI’s business accelerator will pitch their new businesses to prospective investors and community supporters, culminating three months of intense efforts focused on developing and creating products or services. RCBI’s TEN50 is part of the Global Accelerator Network, a worldwide network of business accelerators that share best practices, resources, investment opportunities and service providers. Lunch & Learn: 3D Printing for Architecture

Learn how architects are creating scale models of their designs through 3D printing. The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) is hosting a Lunch & Learn at noon Feb. 13 on 3D Printing for Architecture at RCBI Huntington (1050 Fourth Ave.). The machine tool distributor A.W. Miller will offer demonstrations, and other industry representatives will discuss how they use 3D printing. RCBI representatives will offer best practices for working with engineers to bring a 3D printing project to completion. The event is free, but seats are limited. Register by Feb. 9 by going here

Raspberry Pi Meet-Up

The Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) is hosting its monthly Raspberry Pi User Group meeting in its Maker Vault. Whether you’re already an expert or just curious about programming and use of the ultra-affordable devices, join us at RCBI Huntington (1050 Fourth Avenue) to explore different versions of the Pi hardware and software, and focus on popular uses of the small computers. The group will assist you in getting your own Raspberry Pi up and running as well as working on collective projects. Participants should bring a Raspberry Pi and we’ll provide the expertise. National Forum: Expanding Apprenticeship through Apprenticeship Works

Learn how apprenticeship is resolving training and hiring needs across the manufacturing industry at a national forum hosted by the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) and America Makes. The free forum, “Expanding Apprenticeship through Apprenticeship Works,” is scheduled at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. RCBI and America Makes will launch the nation’s first apprenticeship for additive manufacturing technicians at the forum. Featured speaker Eric Seleznow, senior advisor to Jobs for the Future, will discuss how apprenticeship programs work for employers across industries. RCBI Workforce Director Lucinda Curry will outline resources available to help manufacturers establish their own customized apprenticeship program. Manufacturing representatives from companies such as Mohawk Flooring, Weyerhaeuser, Butech Bliss, Reddog Industries and Martin Engineering also will share their insights about apprenticeship. West Virginia Makes Festival

RCBI and a group of statewide partners present the fifth annual West Virginia Makes Festival, a celebration of ingenuity and creativity. The Oct. 5 event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a Design Challenge for makers of all ages as well as hands-on activities for everyone.

Join us on the Huntington campus of Marshall University at the Memorial Student Center for the 2018 WV Makes Festival.

Our annual Design Challenge will provide makers the opportunity to demonstrate their new ideas and skills, and will reward their creative inspirations. Hobbyists, inventors, enthusiasts, artists and students of all ages who enter the Design Challenge are eligible for one of several prizes.

The celebration is open to everyone. In addition to a Design Challenge, the West Virginia Makes Festival will feature 3D Printing, some of your favorite local artists, special exhibits and other attractions. Call 304.781.1675 if you need more information or any assistance in registering.
