Maker Fundamentals: Mom & Dad Make! 3D Design & Printing

Mom & Dad Make! Means a project for all ages, even the very young when accompanied by an adult (children 7 and under, can participate in this hands-on workshop with a guardian’s guidance).

This 3D Design & Printing centered workshop on Tuesday, January 22nd is from 6-7:30, and will put you at the helm of powerful but intuitive 3D Design software, and expose you to 3D filetypes, resources and websites; you’ll also maintain access to this powerful design tool for free!

After you design or download your 3D project, we’ll show you the basics of Slicing and preparing your file for print. We’ll get your print started and show you how to operate the 3D printers in our Maker Vault. No experience or expertise required! You can come pick your printed object up anytime during business hours the following week.

Maker Fundamentals: Mom & Dad Make! CNC; Computer Controlled Cutting

Mom & Dad Make! Means a project for all ages, even the very young when accompanied by an adult (children 7 and under, can participate in this hands-on workshop with a guardian’s guidance).

This CNC Router centered workshop will put you at the helm of an X Carve! You’ll use intuitive design software to create a 2D project, and learn milling and machining basics, resources, and websites; you’ll also maintain access to software design tools for free!

After you design or download your 2D project, we’ll show you the basics of operating the machine and cutting your project. We’ll provide sheets of plywood and cutting bits, and show you how to operate the X Carve CNC cutter/carver in our Maker Vault! No experience or expertise required. You’ll get to take your small project home with you same day.

Kids of all ages welcome, under 7 accompanied by an adult for Mom & Dad Make! Cost is $15 per person ($15 per child for Mom & Dad Make; parent participation free when you work with your child on his/her project!)

Maker Fundamentals: Mom & Dad Make! Hydraulic Arm

Mom & Dad Make! Means a project for all ages, even the very young when accompanied by an adult (children 7 and under, can participate in this hands-on workshop with a guardian’s guidance).

Assembling and operating this Hydraulic Arm will teach basic mechanics and hydraulics; this entirely custom designed kit was created with free design tools, and cut our X Carve in the Maker Vault! You’ll hand-build this project, made of wood, syringe cylinders, and dowel rods, using zip-ties and simple fasteners, and leave with a fully functional remotely controlled hydraulic arm. This kit comes with either functional grippers, or an electromagnet you’ll make yourself!

All materials and assembly instructions are provided, the group will be led in the assembly process, and some friendly competition will take place at the end to test your skills with your new robotic arm! No experience or expertise required.

Kids of all ages welcome, under 7 accompanied by an adult for Mom & Dad Make! Cost is $18 per person for the hydraulic gripper arm, $24 per person for electromagnet arm ($18/$24 respectively, per child, per kit, for Mom & Dad Make; parent participation free when you work with your child on his/her project!)
